For most websites, checking once a day is sufficient. For business-critical sites, checking every few hours or setting up automated monitoring is recommended. WebsiteStatus is designed for manual, on-demand checks — each result is saved and gets its own shareable URL so you can track the status history of any domain over time.
Yes, WebsiteStatus is a lightweight tool you can use to manually verify whether your site is up after deployments, DNS changes, or server maintenance. For continuous 24/7 monitoring with alerts, consider pairing it with a dedicated uptime monitoring service. WebsiteStatus gives you instant snapshots whenever you need them.
An SSL/TLS certificate enables encrypted HTTPS connections. Browsers display a padlock icon when the certificate is valid. WebsiteStatus connects over HTTPS and verifies the certificate during the check. If a site's certificate is expired, self-signed, or misconfigured, the check may report the site as offline or show an error status.
A CDN (Content Delivery Network) serves your website from multiple geographic locations to improve speed and reliability. If your site uses a CDN, WebsiteStatus may reach a different edge server on each check, which can result in slightly different response times. A CDN generally improves uptime but can mask origin server issues.
Yes. Every check is saved to our database and each checked site gets its own permanent page at /your-site.com. You can revisit that page at any time to see the latest status, or re-check to get a fresh result. The recently checked sites list on the home page shows the most recent checks across all users.
If a domain has expired, DNS records stop resolving and the site becomes unreachable. WebsiteStatus will report the site as Offline because no server responds at that address. If you suspect your domain expired, check with your domain registrar. Renewing the domain and restoring DNS records will bring the site back online.
A 301 redirect is permanent — it tells browsers and search engines that the page has moved for good. A 302 redirect is temporary — the page may return to its original URL later. WebsiteStatus detects both types and shows you the final destination URL after all redirects have been followed.
WebsiteStatus measures the total round-trip time of the HTTP request, including DNS resolution, connection setup, TLS handshake, and data transfer. The measurement reflects what a real visitor would experience. Note that response times can vary based on server load, network conditions, and geographic distance between our server and the target.
